The Marquette-Notre Dame men's basketball rivalry is back on.

The Golden Eagles will host the Fighting Irish at Fiserv Forum in the 2022-23 season and the teams will play in South Bend, Indiana, in 2023-24, the schools announced on Friday.

The longtime rivals haven't met since the 2013 Big East tournament quarterfinals. The Irish won that game, 73-65, with Pat Connaughton shooting 6 for 10 on three-pointers.

Notre Dame joined the Atlantic Coast Conference the next season, while MU continued in the reconstituted Big East.

The teams have met 118 times with the Irish leading the series, 81-37. There have been many memorable matchups over the years, including Doc Rivers knocking down a 35-foot shot to beat No. 5 Notre Dame at the MECCA on Jan. 10, 1981.

There are some current connections between Notre Dame and MU. Irish head coach Mike Brey was a big part of the recruitment of MU coach Steve Wojciechowski as a player when Brey was an assistant at Duke. MU athletic director Bill Scholl worked for 23 years at Notre Dame, including as deputy athletic director.
