Packers wide receiver Christian Watson injures his hamstring late in game vs. Chiefs
Christian Watson was following up his best game of the season with another great performance on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs before a nationally-televised audience when he went down late in the fourth quarter.
The Packers wide receiver was running up field along the left side on an end-around when he suddenly pulled up, with an awkward slide to clearly indicate something was wrong. He had just gained a first down to get to the Kansas City 24-yard line and the Packers ahead 24-19 with just over 3 minutes left in the game.
But Watson would not get up right away.
Watson needed assistance in getting off the field as he grabbed his hamstring, putting a damper on his impressive showing in the Packers' 27-19 win.
He then went into the blue tent to be treated before returning to the sideline. He was seen walking on the field during the post-game, a sign that he might have avoided a more serious injury.
The team noted on social media that Watson indeed had a hamstring injury.
Before the injury, Watson had seven catches for 71 yards and two touchdowns, including one in which he used his 6-foot-4 height to his advantage.
That 12-yard TD catch ended a seven-play, 67-yard drive that put the Packers up 21-12 with 5:35 left in the third quarter. The throw also showed Jordan Love's confidence in the 24-year-old receiver, who led the team with a season-high nine targets.
Watson appeared to be in better spirits after the game as he was awarded one of the "Sunday Night Football" game balls.
Watson missed the first three games of this season with a hamstring injury and battled through some injuries early in his rookie season in 2022.
