Cool Waters aquatic center in Greenfield Park in West Allis will be open this summer after remaining closed in 2022 due to a lifeguard shortage.

The Milwaukee County Parks Department announced Thursday that Greenfield Park's Cool Waters Aquatic Center will open this summer, after having to remain closed in 2022 because of a lifeguard shortage.

In addition to Cool Waters, Lincoln Park's Schulz Aquatic Park, two deep well outdoor pools, 16 wading pools and seven splash pads will open in county parks for this summer's swimming season. Last summer, the county opened one water park, four deep-well outdoor pools, nine wading pools and five splash pads.

According to the county parks department, support from the county board allowed them to raise hourly wages and offer summer bonuses to lifeguards this summer, resulting in a 15% increase in the number of lifeguards compared with last year.

However, as has been the case the past few years, there will be no lifeguards at the four county beaches that will be open this summer.

The parks department has one more hiring opportunity for lifeguards from 5-7 p.m. May 23-25 at Pulaski Indoor Pool, 2701 S. 16th St. And from 10 a.m. to noon on May 27, there will be an employment open house at Cool Waters Aquatic Center for aquatics admissions, concessions and park workers.

There will be updates on MKEswim.com when more details about pool hours and fees are determined.

Here are the Milwaukee County water parks, pools and beaches that will be open this summer.
