A new baby animal was born at the Milwaukee County Zoo in May

The Milwaukee County Zoo has another new baby — a female Bactrian camel born on May 20 to 11-year-old mother AJ and 10-year-old father Stan.
The calf, who weighs in at 88 pounds, was born in the outdoor camel habitat. In a statement, zookeepers said AJ is adjusting well to her new baby as she nursed her on the day she was born and "is noticeably calmer with this calf compared to her first three offspring."
AJ's other calves were born in 2017, 2019 and 2021, and have since moved on to other zoos.
Stan had been separated from AJ as her due date approached; he now interacts with AJ and the new baby through a mesh barrier in the camel barn, and will be introduced to his family based on how well he adjusts to the calf. It likely will be about a month before all three camels will start to be together in the outdoor habitat.
If the calf continues to progress well, she and her mom will be in the outdoor camel habitat from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. If weather is inclement, they will be off exhibit in the camel barn.
