Broken Bat Brewing was giving away beer (while supplies last). Here's why.
Milwaukee's Broken Bat Brewing Co., 135 E. Pittsburgh Ave., was giving away free beer, "no questions asked."
The Third Ward brewery posted on social media Wednesday that it was looking to give away beer that was at the end of its "sellable life."
"Please feel free to take some beer from this stack to-go, and leave a payment if you'd like to. Payment is not required, and there are no strings attached," the post says. "Absolutely nothing wrong with it, just the end of the road."
By 5 p.m. Wednesday the brewery posted on social media that all product was gone after making the original post shortly before 2 p.m.
The brews available were Broken Bat's double IPA, pink lemonade sour and Mexican lager. The image showed dozens of six-packs available.
Owner Tim Pauly said that the cans were just over the six-month shelf life that Broken Bat has for its product.
"We just have so much new beer that we're very proud of, and we over-brewed a few batches this spring," he said.
Pauly said there were about 25 cases left by Wednesday afternoon. He said staff will be onsite and carding people who are walking away with beer.
