A photo of Aundre Cross is posted at a makeshift memorial on Tuesday, Dec. 13 where Cross, a 44-year-old U.S. Postal Service employee was shot and killed while delivering mail last week Friday on the 5000 block of North 65th Street in Milwaukee.

Gov. Tony Evers has ordered the American and Wisconsin flags to be flown at half-staff Thursday in honor of Aundre Cross, the U.S. Postal Service mail carrier who was shot and killed Dec. 9.

“Mr. Cross was, by all accounts, a cherished husband, father, coworker, minister, and friend, and he was a dedicated public servant who committed 18 years of his life and career to the U.S. Postal Service and his community,” Evers said. “Kathy and I send our deepest condolences to his family, friends and coworkers during this difficult time.”

The symbol of mourning is scheduled for the same day funeral services are planned for Cross, 44.

Police have not announced any arrests after Cross was killed on the 5000 block of North 65th Street, on Milwaukee’s northwest side. A reward of up to $50,000 is offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Police have not detailed the circumstances of the shooting, but the U.S. Postal Inspection Service has circulated photos of a suspect vehicle believed to be involved – a silver Audi Q5 SUV with tinted windows.

Cross worked out of post stations at 6501 W. Fond Du Lac Ave. and 2656 N. Teutonia Ave., according to a former coworker and has been remembered fondly by family, friends and coworkers.

His family set up an online crowdsourcing page on MealTrain.com for food and long-term support for his children. As of Wednesday afternoon it had raised more than $7,000.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service circulated photos of a vehicle suspected to be involved in the Dec. 9 shooting death of Aundre Cross, an 18-year veteran mail carrier. The vehicle is described as a silver Audi Q5 SUV with tinted windows.
