A Texas quarterback with a familiar name gives Wisconsin its first commitment for 2025

MADISON – Wisconsin offensive coordinator Phil Longo likely didn’t have to go far to obtain a detailed scouting report on the Badgers’ first commitment for the 2025 class.

The player in question: Texas quarterback Landyn Locke, who announced Thursday he has committed to UW.

Older brother Braedyn Locke transferred to UW from Mississippi State last winter and is set to open camp as the Badgers’ No. 2 quarterback behind Tanner Mordecai.

Longo recruited the elder Locke coming out of high school and again after he entered the transfer portal.

Landyn Locke plays for Rockwall High School in Texas. Braedyn Locke set the Class 6A Texas state record for all-time passing touchdowns (128) and finished second in passing yards (11,182).

Landyn Locke, 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, started eight games last season and passed for 1,823 yards, with 31 touchdowns and just four interceptions.

He had offers from Miami, SMU, UW, Western Kentucky and Tulsa.
