Syracuse linebacker who said he would transfer to Wisconsin seems to have changed his mind
MADISON – Whether coaches are recruiting high school players or college players who choose to use the transfer portal, non-binding commitments can be fleeting.
See the case of outside linebacker Leon Lowery, who has played in 27 games in four seasons at Syracuse.
Lowery announced Sunday on social media he had committed to Wisconsin.
Less than 24 hours later, Lowery reportedly de-committed. He reposted a story detailing his decision.
He later wrote:
"My agent Chris Wash and Darren Wilson will be handling all of my official visits and recruitment so anything involving my recruitment please contact them."
Lowery entered the transfer portal after head coach Dino Babers was fired. He also holds offers from Oregon State, California, Georgia Tech, Houston and Baylor.
Lowery started all 12 games as a redshirt sophomore this season. He recorded 3 ½ sacks, 7 ½ tackles for loss and 46 total tackles. He started two games in 2022 and recorded 1 ½ sacks, six tackles for loss and 24 total tackles. Lowery played in a combined three games in 2020 and 2021.
